The mercurial world of fashion is constantly changing. In fact, they say, change is the only constant. More than ever, the designers and stylists are looking to the past for inspiration.

What's old is new, and nowadays fashion is melded by all the cultural influences from around the globe. The past continues to beckon and provide inspiration for the future but nowadays, designers are going inwards and back as their concerns now are more about where fashion and beauty trends originate. The styles and trends too watch out for would inevitably reflect modern interpretations of past designs, while keeping a watchful eye on emerging global trends in beauty and culture.

Go Indian

“It’s the Indian look which will be in. Women are realising that real beauty gets a personal touch in attires which originate from our own culture. Indian culture is so rich and has many variations to offer. Using that, the Indian look in various forms will rock this year. Women no longer need to feel pressurised by peers to go for clothes, which do not flatter their ‘taste’. Indian wear does not mean it is not hip. It is beautiful and very attractive. Just go for it, experiment, I’d say.”

Bohemian Rhapsody

“This coming year is going to be a clear celebration of the vintage, classic and the Bohemian lifestyle. The beach blonde and copper blonde look will be back. Hair doesn’t need to be poker straight. In fact, a vintage, luminous look is. Go for solo shades for your hair and maybe add the shine lines one shade lighter than your original hair colour. This look will rule. From autumn glow to winter haze, black accentuated look is back. People are going to revel in the effortless luxury in hair, couture and living spaces. The key word would be ‘luxury in summer time’.”

Shapes and Hues
“This year accessories are high on his and her’s shopping list. For men, big bags are in. So are the mobile pouches in various sizes and colours. An inbuilt mobile pouch in the belt is back again. But in better designs. Men are becoming trend conscious too, so they stay away from the normal and boring stuff. Be it bags, wallets or mobile pouches. Laptop bags in cord material is in. Men don’t want to be seen in the boring laptop bags, there would be a rush for choosing bags in various hues. For women, again big bags in funky colours like yellow, blue, silver and gold are in. Women are opting for bigger bags so that they can carry their whole world in that. Women love to co-ordinate their belts, bags and shoes. So if it’s a yellow bag, then the shoes become a little subtler.”

Girl Power
“Power dressing is important for the woman of today. Gone are the days when women sashayed and preened their stuff only during parties or get togethers. Now the office-going power gals make style and fashion an integral part of their lives.”

Fashion: What's In
Rocky S says, "The silhouettes would be a mix of restricted and relaxed moods. The tent will continue with natural and high waist accents, bottoms are either narrow or completely flared. Colours will be neutral, fresh pastels with vivid trims running into rich deep shades. Long flowing dresses will be in vogue, voluminous skirts and bit of power dressing for women, as for men, it's a tapered slim fits in both top and bottoms wear for semi's and formals and more of lounge wear."

Designer Manish Malhotra plays it up: "'Colours' would be the in-thing. Men could go for palazzo trousers, skinny pants and jeans for men and women are cool. Knee-length dresses fitted, but quenched at the waist, with a belt is a great look to watch out for."
