Can you feel the heat?
17 Jan 2008,
Two-and-a-half years ago when young designer Gayatri Khanna came to Mumbai after her stint abroad, the city welcomed her with open arms.
Keeping her style distinguished, Gayatri made sure she does not fall prey to the stereotypes and spoke about causes close to her heart by way of her collections — ‘Save the environment’ being one such.
“It was Al Gore’s movie An Inconvenient Truth that shook me up and since then there’s no looking back,” she says and continues, “Fashion connects people at a day-to-day level and in my own way, I would want people to do their bit to reduce global warming,” says Gayatri.
But why Dia Mirza? The designer is quick to explain, “Dia is known to speak her mind openly about such humanitarian causes, she was my ‘natural’ choice. Elaborating on Dia’s look (in the picture), Gayatri says, “Dia is wearing my spring/summer ensemble from the line ‘Our Beautiful Earth — Prevent Global Warming’. I’ve used vintage crystals in a burnt out look of an avalanche on her dress, the look is self-explanatory about the ill-effects of carbon emissions in global warming.”
The designer is taking a step ahead by launching her signature store at Kemps Corner today. Her line being the highlight. Now’s your turn to feel the heat.
