Style Check : Designer Ashley Rebello offers a guide on what to put on the wrist this season... Going Up : Bling is back in vogue for women. Diamante stdded dials with metal belts or delicate leather should be the pick this season. Old classics are also gaining in popularity. For men the steel look is in or simple dials with leather straps in colours like dark tan, black or any other neutral hue. For young college goers anything fun and funk is accepted. They can experiment with canvas straps as well. Going down : Bright straps like electric green, bright red, blue that were in last season are a completely no-no now. So are synthetic straps in plastic and rexene. Men must stay away from bright gold watches; it's a complete fashion faux pas. So are digital watches. - As told as Sonal Ved. -Mumbai Mirror, Saturday, December 22, 2007 LIVE WITH STYLE:
Heal your image wounds: Your image is the totality of how you present yourself to the world, a combination of your inner and outer self. Your body image is the picture you have in your mind of how you think your body looks. How many times, for instance, do you say negative or even nasty things to yourself? If you do this often, you are effectively burying negative thoughts deeper and deeper into your subconscious. Start to become aware of your thoughts and listen closely to what you are saying to yourself. Self-criticism is healthy but not to the extent of keeping your image wounds open for long. Create your own personal style statement: This statement represents your desire to present yourself in a specific way. It is how you wish to be seen. You must be realistic and honest with yourself. Think about your icons and the people you most admire. What words best describe them and stand out to you. Surround yourself with positive-thinking people who have achieved or are achieving their goals. Read about people who have overcome adversity against all odds. Colours: What looks good on you might not look good on someone else. Be smart in analyzing a shade when it is not meant for you. At the same time, it does not mean that you should never wear that colour or that particular shade is taboo for you. Try experimenting the same shade with different accessories and get the opinion of people who are close to you. Mothers are the best friends, goes an age old saying. Create a personal style profile: This is a review of the previous seven steps and a written record of who you are shopping with. It will not tell you what to buy, but helps you identify what makes you unique. When you change your wardrobe in the next season, you will have a better idea of how to deal with the clothes you already have. While shopping: A few points to remember. Do not go back to your old choice of clothes when you are sure that they are not meant for you. Create a shopping list before you go. Select the right day and give yourself plenty of time. Keep repeating your personal style statement until it becomes your personal signature.
